I am bored. What should I do?

Life has drastically changed these days with all the Coronavirus situation. Confusion, instability, boredom, insecurity came into our lives. We no longer know what the future will bring us (certainly we never did, but we still used to know some things were guaranteed, like going outside without restrictions, for example). In today’s current world situation, we can only hope to find the light at the end of the tunnel, because boredom has certainly come to stay, as we sit our butts in front of the tv with nothing to watch on Netflix and thinking what should we do.

And because I was bored, I discovered a fun fact: did you know that the word «corona» means «crown» in Russian? «Kорона» – just google it and you’ll see tons of crowns! And it is pronounced the same way as in English. Also, did you know that «corona» resembles «coroa» (just drop the “n”) which means «crown» in Portuguese?

So, “what can I do when I’m bored?” you might ask

You’re tired of looking at the same old walls every day. I understand.

So I have a suggestion: you mind as well just accept your boredom and do something great with it.

What should you do when you are bored then?

Direct your attention to the blessings that the world was given due to this quarantine times. I don’t quite see people understand how big this situation actually is.

All we see now is people trying to deal with the isolation, the boredom, the fear, and the loneliness of being at home alone. Ok, I get it. Everyone is bored. Of course. But we can also use these bored days in our favour. For us to later look back and not feel guilty for not taking the chance we have now with all the free time available.

It’s all very sad now, but let’s travel back in time for just a few weeks before the quarantine. Let’s remember the time when you came home after work or school, at the end of your day, you were tired and sad that you would need to wait on for your next Saturday to watch that Netflix series, to just do nothing, or to do that one thing you wished you could do if only you had the time to do it.

Well, you now have the chance to do all the things you wanted to do at home! Isn’t this amazing?

Introspection vs Constant movement

We are all different. And there are the ones that take their time to analyse their lives and think about where they are heading, and there are those that never really think much, and just go on with the flow, or just don’t like to introspect and be by themselves all too much.

However, we are all forced to be at home now. And the positive aspect of this, is that those people that never really spend time alone by themselves can now find ways to be comfortable alone, discover themselves and maybe introspect a little more on their lives.

This is a great way to force yourself to learn how to do it.

Propel your boredom!

You can propel your bored feelings and change your life, changing your habits, your relationships, your career, your course in life. Changing whatever is dragging you down and what is making you unhappy.

Boredom is actually your friend to think about what is bothering you right now.

Everybody Forgot What It Feels Like To Be Bored

I think people forgot how it was like to feel bored. Because when you are bored, after feeling stuck and hopeless and energy-less, you begin to think creatively, trying to figure out a way to get away. You start to look for new things to do, besides the usual TV-Netflix-gaming-music bundle.

Imagine being alive in some other century that came before us, without all this entertainment available! Imagine what it was like to feel bored back then.

Let’s face it, we all got used to having so much going on every day that now we can’t be in silence with our heads – the main reason is, that we numb those thoughts all the time, only allowing them to come up when sitting in our black rooms preparing to sleep.

That’s the only time of the day that we got to face our thoughts and deep worries constantly coming in.

This Is The Time Of Our Lives

People are not in a rush anymore. Think with me. Retrospect. What were your wishes a few months back? What did you wish to do but never did (of course, exclude anything social)?

This is the time of our lives; everyone has this opportunity!

This is the time to bring your life together, think about your priorities, re-think your path these past months or years, think about what you are doing with your life, and if you are satisfied with where you are now.

It’s the million-dollar question!

Are you happy with your life? Do you feel satisfied with what you’ve accomplished?

Now is the time to reflect on what you’ve achieved to this day and analyse if you’re happy and content with it.

We Are Facing Ourselves Now

No running. No hiding. You can either be your friend or your enemy.

I urge everyone to understand how great this time is for self-improvement as a person, as an individual, as thinking and introspecting humans that we can all be (but forget).

The world is now in a slow-paced movement, really slow. We are not in a rush anymore. There are no places to be and people to see. Everyone is with themselves now. Facing our fears and dramas. People are their own enemies if they let things be as they’ve always been.

Re-think over your life goals

Use this time you have to self-reflect. Use this free time to think over your goals for your life. What have you established to yourself as being the most important thing to pursue?

  • Is it being rich? How do you plan on achieving that?
  • Is it to help others? How are you doing that?
  • Is it to be famous? How are you going to actually achieve this?

Wouldn’t it be so amazing if everybody would just introspect on their lives? That way there wouldn’t be so many people that later in the future would be saying “Why didn’t I think about this before?”, “Why didn’t I quit my job and did what I truly enjoyed doing?”, “Why did I put up with this abusive person for so long?”, “Why do I even talk to these people if they’re not my true friends?”, “I made this decision without actually thinking straight”, etc.

Because now, no one has to deal with people or needs to be going somewhere they don’t really want to go. Let’s all take a deep breath and think solely with our heads and according to our own desires and needs
